| | The most important conclusion from the
simulation study was that the intake valve duration is extremely important, and
that the available Model T reground cams have too much intake valve
duration. The graph below illustrates this conclusion. Each point on
the graph corresponds to one of the cams simulated. The average horsepower
between 900 and 1600 rpm is plotted versus the intake valve duration. Of
course, there is some scatter of the points, because the plot disregarded all
the other camshaft parameters. Even so, there is a clear trend of
decreasing power with increasing duration. The solid line in the graph is
a curve fit of a cubic polynomial to the data points. According to the
curve fit, the optimum intake valve duration is between 220 and 225 degrees.
