Wheel Balancing

Ted Kyle has built the wheel balancing fixture shown below.  Building a fixture like this would make a good winter project for other local chapters. On the right is a pedestal with a ball bearing mounted at the top.  On the left is a circular bubble level.  The level is mounted on a fixture which is threaded on the bottom so that it can be screwed in place of the normal Ford hubcap.  Circular levels are sold at hardware and tool supply stores, e.g. Wholesale Tool.

To use the fixture, you screw the level onto the hubcap threads and then place the wheel onto the pedestal (see below).  Add weight to the wheel until the bubble is centered.  Stick on weights work well and are available at most auto supply houses.
